Mission Statement

Second Amendment to the U.S. Constituiton.

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary for the survival of a Free State, the right of the PEOPLE to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

"Virginia State Constitution, Article I, Section 13

"That a well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people,
trained to arms, is the proper, natural, and safe defense of a free state,
therefore, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be
infringed; that standing armies, in time of peace, should be avoided
as dangerous to liberty; and that in all cases the military should
be under strict subordination to, and governed by, the civil power."

The purpose of the Virginia Militia is to educate, train and prepare the people of the Commonwealth of Virginia for all types of emergency that would threaten life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We need able bodied men and women who want to train and equip themselves to defend the Commonwealth

We do NOT advocate the violent overthrow of the U.S. Government. We do not condone descrimination based on racial, ethnic or religious grounds.

List of Basic Equipment

You do not need the latest and greatest, high speed, low drag gear. The philosophy of KISS dictates.

We currently do not specify a particular uniform, however, Woodland, Marpat digital, multicam, flectar BDU's are common. If nothing else wear some good durable clothing that will last for periods in the outdoors. Don't forget about outer wear (coats, jackets) and rain gear.

A good set of boots is a must. Either milsurp or civilian camping/hiking boots are the best.

You will need a rifle, preferably of a common caliber, i.e. 7.62x51 (.308 Win), 5.56x45 (.223 Rem).

Other calibers will also be acceptable, such as the 7.62x39, 5.45x39, 7.62x54r or whatever you have and are comfortable with. You must keep in mind that the more unusual calibers may be hard to replace once your personal stock is gone.

The rifle itself would preferably be a semi-automatic, however bolt action military surplus type rifles are also useful.

Unless you have the appropriate tax stamp, DO NOT bring a fully automatic rifle to any muster or event!

You will need something to carry you gear. A load bearing vest or harness (MOLLE or ALICE type) plus a back pack of some sort to carry things like extra clothing, food, first aid supplies.

You will need somthing to carry water, a milsurp canteen and cover, a commercial camping/hiking waterbottle can be put to use.

You will need something to sleep in. A milsurp or commercial camping sleeping bag, even a couple of wool blankets.

A shelter of some sort, such as military shelter halves, commercial tents, even a tarp can be used in a pinch
